A review of Mirrorstone bike after five months use. I get compliments about the bike from riders on some very expensive road bikes when out and about. This bike continues to be a constant joy to ride. I have added a seat post suspension post bought off Amazon, however, the actual travel seems only 15mm so maybe the one on sale at Halfords could be a better bet at GBP20.
I had my first puncture in the rear tyre just before Christmas and found the following issues, so learn from these observations;
The 18mm spanner in the supplied tool kit would not budge one of the nuts. Buy a ring spanner and make sure it works.
Make sure you turn off the power supply before doing any work, nothing worse than the bike flying off the stand when you turn the pedal in pedalec mode.
Getting the rear wheel back into the lugs is quite a hard job. Remove the battery to reduce the weight of the bike while trying to relocate the wheel axle into the lugs.
The chain also gets in the way of getting the axle into the lugs, I used a reusable electrician tie to hold the chain out of the way by tying it to the mudguard stay.
It was not easy repairing the puncture in daylight, and I would say next to impossible at night. (I have been riding bikes for over 40 years). So have a backup plan if you ride the back at night. In Amsterdam they have a bike AA system shame it doesn’t seem to exist where I live.
After about 300km I started to get chain off issues. This was caused by cable stretch so re-index the STI gearing by turning the adjuster near the gearing by about 1/4 or 1/2 turn (see Youtube for guidance). To get the chain back on the chainwheel I have found the easiest way is to hold the chain at the bottom of the chain wheel in the teeth and turn the pedals backward.
Lastly a big thank you to Mirrorstone for the way they handled my faulty battery at the beginning of my ownership.
I was a little worried when I had to wait about two weeks to receive the two bikes I ordered (his & hers). But they eventually arrived very well packaged and required very little assembly, about 2-3 hours each. I have been riding bikes for 30 plus years so have a little knowledge how things go together. (The online help is also useful).
My First Bike ride on the Mirrorstone around hilly Yorkshire Dales (and there steep hills in this area).
I used PAS level 5 (pawer assistance level) for first 10km or so going up Cowpasture Road & Moor Lane/Rd Ilkley. This was not wise as possibly drained battery a lot, although was fun. Battery needs to be conditioned by discharge fully about five times. Out of East Morton going up Street Lane battery gave up completely, or so I thought. I contemplated calling for a taxi but thought maybe on lower PAS level 1-2 I could cope going up all the hills especially the one out of Silsden (on PAS level 1), and so it proved to be. I got home after 2hr 4min, covering 39.6km, and still had some battery power remaining. I am glad the bike has good brakes some of the hills are quite steep, I was hitting 45kph and activating the speed warnings on the side of the road!
Average heart rate 135 & 1248 Kcal for the ride. Glad I was wearing NZ winter level clothes as quite cold at 9C at start.
This has to be the best value e-bike on the market. The service from Plug-in Bikes is first class, from initial enquiries leading up to ordering and setting up the bike.
After a great delivery service, the bike was fairly straightforward to build up from the box.
I have had my e-bike for around 6 weeks now and I continue to be impressed by the quality of the bike and its impressive performance.
It has given me a new lease of cycling life and, if you are reading these reviews with a view to buying one of these e-bikes then stop reading, get on the ‘phone and get one ordered. You will not regret it.
Easily the best bike i have ever used. Set up was extremely easy, i was up and running within half an hour of receiving it. The battery life is great and it has really made riding a bike enjoyable again. Absolutely can not fault this bike one bit. Fantastic.
Very impressed with both the bike and the service provided by you guys. A very informative website, and customer services rep I spoke to over the phone yesterday was backed up by rapid delivery and a premium product. Thank you!!
This bike is really good but I don’t want a basket on it so luckily I could take it off. The bike is electric which works really well so I don’t have to pedal as hard thank god. It was a 4* but I took an extra star off because of the basket and the seat took me a while to move but the rest of the bike is great.
I ordered this bike after a fair amount of research online about which electric bike to go for. The specs on this vintage bike coupled with a pretty decent price meant this was the one I went for. Starting with the appearance of the bike: simple, yet pleasing. I love the retro style of the chassis, and the brown leather handlebars and saddle combine beautifully with the black body. In terms of the motor performance –it’s great. Getting around 30 miles from a full charge is the target according to the website, and whist I didn’t quite attain these levels, I got a far more than adequate performance, with the pedal assist being an inspired invention. All in all, I would definitely recommend this bike.
Unbelievable service, speedy delivery, and a truly premium product at a great price – what more can you ask for?
I love the bike but I just wanted to say how impressed I was with the service provided over the phone! And deliver y only took 2 days before I was able to ride my brand new bike – thanks guys!
A very smooth ride made even easier when the electric motor is switched on. Fantastic service and speedy delivery, will definitely recommend you guys.
I ordered this bike in black, because I liked how the brown saddle and handlebars complemented it. The electric motor is quite powerful and allows me to travel at a decent speed without even pedalling. I’m a big fan of the vintage appearance, and the basket has come in handy most days.
I chose the black vintage style electric bike and I LOVE it. I ride to work and back – a trip which is only a couple of miles, but can be rather gruelling towards the end of the week, especially as there are quite a few steep sections. Not only does this bike have 7 gears for me to utilise, but I can also take advantage of the motor which makes pedalling even easier. The bike also looks fab, much better than all the other bikes at the office so no complaints there!
Very easy to set up and charge. A fairly quick charge led to a few days charge, so no complaints there. As a keen biker, I was impressed to see there are 7 gears, so if I fancy pedalling myself then I can do with ease, but it’s even easier to allow the motor to assist me in pedalling. As someone who is 6ft tall, it only took a quick adjustment of the seat for me to fit on the bike and get going. I am very happy with my purchase.
A brilliant bike that arrived extremely quickly. The electric aspect is brill, and the design of the bike is mostly fantastic. However, I think that the handlebars and the seat would look better in black, and I took the basket off as it is a bit feminine. All in all, however, a good bike.
First and foremost, let me just say that I do really like this bike. The motor works very well, the battery life is decent, and the basket is spacious. Yet, having had the bike for two months now, when I went to leave this review, I have noticed the Cherry Red colour which looks even better than the black! Luckily the black is nice, but I wish I’d noticed the red before!
1st of all, cutest bike ever!! Love how it comes with a basket included and it looks so quirky and retro! Was stuck between the red one and the black one but I chose black beause I prefer how the brown and black go together. Now when I go to college its so much quicker because I have an electric bike which means I can stay in bed longer in the mornings lol. Best bday present ever!!!
I spoke to Alex on the phone and received top service. Although I had my heart set on this bike already, I rang to order rather than online so I could allow the staff to convince me but I needn’t have worried – the bike is brilliant. With an inspired appearance and a powerful electric motor, the bike is everything I had hoped for and more. It is durable yet light, attractive yet powerful, and ultimately extremely powerful.
This electric bike is deceiving because of its vintage appearance. Its motor is actually pretty powerful, and I was able to let it drive the wheels at 15mph without needing to pedal. I love the vintage look, but I did take the basket off.
We purchased this bike and were amazed at the quality of the bike. We cannot fault the design and look, we are more than happy that we chose Pluginbikes. We initially thought that the bike would be tedious to assemble with it being electric; however, thanks to Vishal (who was more than happy to help) assembly was very simplistic. Top notch service and a great bike.
We bought this bike for my husband and were amazed at how substantial it is. It looks amazing and we are so pleased that we chose Pluginbikes. It didn't take long to assemble and with the help of Vishal was able to finish it off. Amazing bike and amazing service, thank you!
Got this to help with my commute to work 1 month ago and has been the best thing I have ever invested in, get me to work quicker and is fantastic on and off road.
Great bike, step through frame is really handy as I have mobility issues, requires some assembly but it’s quite straight forward and the guys at plugin bikes are very helpful.
I am delighted with my bike. I am just as pleased that I chose Pluginbikes to buy from; the help and service given have been excellent. They promptly deal with queries and keep you informed. Delivery was the next day from ordering. Highly recommend them
I have always been a keen cyclist enjoying a ride into the countryside, as I am not as fit as I used to be I was looking for a motored bike to make my ride a little easier. After a lot of searching I found Pluginbikes.
I found the website very easy to navigate and informative, I had a couple of questions about the bike as I didn’t really know much about electric bikes, The person I spoke to was very helpful and went through everything with me.
I received my bike the very next day! Very easy to assemble and away you go, this has given me more freedom and peace of mind knowing the high service and quality I have received.
Thank you Pluginbikes I will recommend you to friends and family but I’m sure with the great price, and service of your product they will be flying out the door.
Hi got my daughter the Dynamic bike for her 21st Birthday, cheaper than buying her a car and very environmental friendly.
She is very happy and showing all her friends how fast the bike is, thank you Alex for the great advice.
Bought this Electric Bike at a very competitive price for my wife for our 50th Anniversary, she was over the moon as it reminded her of our romantic trip to Amsterdam.
Going to the shops is so easy with not too much effort and the bike has a nice basket to carry the shopping home, going to buy myself one this week.
Just got the bike on Saturday. Very happy with the delivery as it just took a day to come. I had to ask my husband to help me assemble but it took about 30 minutes and I was riding the bike. I love the fact the bike is very easy to get onto and the electric motor really helps.
Bike is now 3 months old and is perfect. When the bike came I found it hard to set it up but after the guidance of the team it was ok. They even made some videos for me to see how to put certain parts together. Love the bike.
I have got this bike 3 weeks ago and it’s the best thing I have done. Bike is perfect and I am really impressed with the quality. I have seen a similar bike on other websites and shops for £1400 plus so I really can’t believe they are selling at this price. Not Complaining though.
I was always wary of technology. Then I got this bike as a present from my family and grandson as I have trouble riding my normal bike now. It's perfect for riding around the local roads and doesn't go too fast either. Charging is easy too! I just plug it in when I get back and unplug it when I next go to ride it. So simple even I can do it, and i'm a 73 year old technophobe!
Overall please with bike have spoken to team about specification but generally very good bike
